2009 Humanitas 'Good Earth' Malbec Schlumberger Bench
Sold Out

There is a delightfully floral and chocolate truffle note in the nose – violets intertwined with a raspberry truffle. This translates beautifully into the flavor – chocolate and raspberry with a touch of all sorts of dark fruits such as blackberries, blueberries, and a few cherries thrown in for good measure. Wrap that all up in new car leather, a pinch of cocoa and pipe tobacco and you are golden. Spin some Argentine tango...

Winemaker’s Comments

Schlumberger Vineyards is located off the beaten track in the hillsides & benchlands high above Dry Creek Valley.  The ‘Schlumberger Bench’ is nestled in a natural amphitheatre situated in a small pocket canyon (Wine Creek Canyon) high up in the hills & planted mainly to Bordeaux varietals.  The grapes are influenced heavily by steep south-facing hillsides, wind from both the Russian River & the Pacific Ocean, superb exposure to the sun, and well-drained soils.   Low yielding Clone 9 fruit produces tiny little berries with intense flavors and well balanced structure.  There is a distinct flavor – a typicity to this ranch that is truly unique – and almost addictive.  If there were a comparison, it would be Right Bank Bordeaux – but with a little Sonoma juiciness thrown in for good measure.  Good mountain-grown Malbec is a rarity in California – this wine is simply stunning.

2009 Humanitas 'Signum' Napa Valley
$ 75.00

There is an immediate sense of cigar wrapper & leather that opens to cocoa, cassis, cola and a bit of pomegranate juice mixed with warm blackberry purée...

Winemaker’s Comments

Sugarloaf Mountain offers a unique terroir for Bordeaux varietals in the Napa Valley. Unlike warmer vineyards up-valley, the climate of Sugarloaf naturally provides a longer hang-time resulting in profound color and flavor intensity. Combined with a southwestern exposure and a rock-laden soil harvesting the sun’s energy, this extraordinary terroir delivers the exceptional ripeness necessary for both the power and complexity required of great Cabernet- and Merlot-based wines.

The Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard lies in the heart of the Napa Valley’s emerging Coombsville region. Recognized for its unique terroir for over 40 years, the Coombsville area is now the newest official AVA in Napa. Located on gently-sloping terrain, this site provides a micro-climate perfectly suited to growing muscular Bordeaux-varietal wines exhibiting the distinctive terroir of this cool growing region.

Wine Description

The wine is dense, dark and intense! There is an immediate sense of cigar wrapper & leather that opens to cocoa, cassis, cola and a bit of pomegranate juice mixed with warm blackberry purée. Let the wine sit in the glass and experience it change over time with several of these flavors moving to the forefront for a bit, then stepping back to let another take the lead. It is a muscular wine, no doubt, but with a hugely rewarding finish of vanilla, cocoa and almost a velvety texture.

Tasting Notes

This Oak Cliff Cellars Petite Sirah from the Lovers Lane Vineyard in Mendocino County is deep purple in color with a seductive nose of violets, this blockbuster offers a mouthful of boysenberries, blueberries and blackberries and finishes with chocolate notes.  This wine stands up well to pork, game or beef, but soft enough to pair with chocolate or mixed berries.

Terroir

The grapes in this wine are from the Lovers Lane Vineyard just north of Ukiah in Mendocino County. Mendocino County represents the northern limits of California's quality wine-growing regions, and even within the county's limits there is a clear vineyard bias towards its southern half. Mendocino County is one of the state's largest wine-growing areas (although far from the most densely planted), and is recognized for the diversity and quality in its wines. Climatic variation between inland and coastal areas is largely to thank for the broad range of wine styles made here.

Packed with intensity, Anthem's first vintage from this famous Beckstoffer vineyards in St. Helena could not be a stronger introduction. On the nose, the 2010 Las Piedras is all dark fruits with loads of blackberries, black cherries and lingering hint of espresso bean. The palate is plush and full weight with more dark fruit, espresso bean, dark chocolate, mint, and a touch of sweet oak, as well as incredible length and complexity. Although very enjoyable now, this Cabernet will peak in 5-10 years and will continue to age and evolve well beyond that.

Anthem's inaugural vintage of Merlot is a Cab-lover's Merlot, and is an incredibly deep, intense wine. The 2010 Merlot's aromatics are dominated by plumbs, black berries, charcoal and dark chocolate. On the palate, there are red fruits (raspberries, red cherries) as well as melted fudge, roasted meats and licorice that tail off into a smooth and amazingly long finish. Although it is hard to imagine a better Merlot, this wine will age and improve beautifully for at least another 5-7 years and pairs well with any pasta or meat dish. Grown on Mount Veeder. Drink now through 2019.

Our 2011 Anthem Las Piedras Vineyard Cabernet is a testament to how much a great site with well drained, rocky soils can mean. This wine shows great bright red fruits, spicy smoked meats, and spice. On the palate, it is full weight and incredibly smooth and seamless, exhibiting more red fruits along with dark chocolate, licorice, and candid cherries. This Cabernet has tremendous elegance, suppleness, and breadth, and will be superb with any meat dish. Exquisite to drink now, and will be even better in 3-8 years.

Our 2011 St. Helena harvest was later than usual. Early autumn rains prompted many to harvest their grapes at lower Brix, but we took our chances and successfully weathered the storm so that we could pick fully ripe grapes of the highest quality. Due to the beautiful sunny, dry weather in the weeks before our arrest, our 2011 wine has gorgeous color, and deep, complex flavors.

The nose on our 2011 Mt. Veeder Estate Cabernet is incredibly complex with sage, mint, gunpowder, blackberries and black cherries. On the palate, it has tremendous density and richness as well as firm tannins, and is packed with roasted meats, graphite, tobacco and earth. Truly a monument to mountain Cabernet. 2011 Humanitas 'Good Earth' Cabernet Sauvignon Reid Vineyard
$ 60.00

Be the inner chef! Take a little white pepper, throw in some dark fruits like raspberries, blueberries and even some cranberries, toss in some chocolate, fresh Bing cherries, a little cola, and a dose of baseball glove leather (seriously!) and you’ve got the complex nose of the Reid Vineyards Cab. On one hand it's ‘classic’ Napa Cab, and on the other hand it's uniquely Reid with a tantalizing dose of winemaker Rob Lloyd. Think classic, yet dynamic and mysterious. It calls out for a classic steak dish or a bold roast. And music always completes the vibe. Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Mozart, Beatles, Pearl Jam?

Winemaker’s Comments

The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site. Reid Vineyards is quintessential Napa Cab…just plain ‘Up-Valley’ great stuff.

This vineyard is a) tiny; b) distinct; and c) consistently awesome.  There is a chocolate/cocoa quality mixed with dark cherries and a little cola that is intrinsic in the fruit.  You can’t ‘beat the terrroir’ out of those qualities out even if you wanted to (and why would you?).  The flavors come from the vineyard…as it should be.  All a winemaker can do is ‘deliver’ those attributes like a doctor delivers a baby…the mother (ie, the vineyard) really does all the work!

2011 Humanitas 'Good Earth' Zinfandel Willy's Vineyard
$ 45.00

Humanitas Willy's Vineyard Zinfandel from Chiles Valley has a nose on it that  is a cauldron of aromas. Try mixing up a cinnamon apple with toasted coconut, raspberry compote and a little cola and that might come close. And as the wine sits in the glass, it continues to morph into hints of orange zest, leather, white pepper... all really delightful scents. On the palate, the wine is intense It's like essence of Zinfandel - thick, rich, full-bodied. This is BBQ ribs wine or a good hearty tri-tip marinated and cooked over mesquite. Grab some of your more outgoing friends, grill up the ribs, blare some good old Southern Rock and settle in for the ride!

Winemaker’s Comments

The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site. Willy’s Vineyard in the Chiles Valley of Napa is quintessentially ‘unique’ with ancient ‘old soldier’ head pruned vines really on their last legs, but so expressive and wise in their old age.

Yields are anemic, the vines look like they need canes just to stand up, and several of the vines have simply given up the ghost. But those that remain have fruit is so intense & so in concert with their site that there is no other Zinfandel vineyard quite like it. This is more like Zinfandel extract than ‘regular’ Zin. It is a dazzling expression of the grape Napa used to be known for – the noble Zinfandel!

On the palate, the wine is…intense! It is like essence of Zinfandel – thick, rich, full-bodied…it is really a striking wine one can’t help but remember. Spices & raspberries; tobacco & leather; earth & toast…all things we love about this varietal. This is BBQ ribs wine…or a good hearty tri-tip marinated & cooked over mesquite. Nothing shy about this wine – grab some of your more outgoing friends, grill up the ribs, blare some good old Southern Rock (how ‘bout the Allman Bros or some vintage Marshall Tucker?) and settle in for the ride. 2011 Oak Cliff Cellars Sonoma Chardonnay (Unoaked)
$ 24.00

$20 flat fee shipping on purchases of 1-12 bottles

Tasting Notes

Because this wine is made and aged in stainless tanks, the fruit is crisp and clean: initially notes of Green Apple and Pear are predominant when served chilled properly, and give way to Melon notes with a hint of Citrus as the wine warms in the glass. The mouthfeel is especially creamy due to the fact that it has undergone 100% malolactic fermentation, converting harsh malic acids to softer, milky ones.

Terroir

Grapes from this wine come from two Sonoma vineyards: one from southern Sonoma County in Carneros and the other from the Russian River area. Carneros is the cooler climate, with wind and fog prevalent conditions, meaning longer growing time, higher acidity and leaner fruit, while Russian River fruit tends to be riper and fatter in style. By blending fruit from the two distinctive areas, this wine results in high acidity and clean, crisp fruit leaning toward green apple and citrus, but with a nice, plump mid-palate of pear and melon.

2012 Humanitas 'Good Earth' Pinot Noir Rio Vista Vineyard
$ 55.00

Our 'Rio Vista Vineyard' Pinot Noir from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, begins on the nose with a mouth watering sensation of strawberry/rhubarb pie and delicious spices baked into the mix. Right behind the pie are some earthy elements and touches of pepper, tobacco, smoked meats and a hint of orange peel. This is duck wine - or perhaps a comfort food roast beef or fresh Alaskan salmon grilled over a wood plank with light herbs. It evolves so much in the glass, maybe a bite of all three! It is at once sultry and at the same time playful, so perhaps pair this with some Madeleine Peyroux and a few of your more quixotic friends!

Winemaker’s Comments

The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site. In Santa Barbara County, there is a special piece of land nestled in a canyon amongst the Santa Rita Hills that is chalk full of…well…chalk (!). It gently ambles to the ocean…it is foggy, cool, sometimes brooding…and perfect for Pinot Noir.

The Rio Vista Vineyard is a star within the highly acclaimed Santa Rita Hills appellation. Betweenthe hillside plantings on chalky soils and the long, cool growing season, the wines off this vineyard are noted for their depth of color and complexity of fruit. Balance is a word that immediately comes to mind – worthy of drinking tonight or aging for decades.

In the mouth, the fruit is very bright up front and the texture is thick in the middle and finish. A little flint & stone pops in followed by cigar wrapper, leather & black pepper. This is a complex wine, yet very easy to drink. It changes a lot in the glass…over and over again. 2012 Humanitas 'Good Earth' Pinot Noir Truchard Vineyard
$ 55.00

Our 2012 'Truchard Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Carneros region of Napa Valley begins with leather and smoke, then opens to ripe cranberry and raspberry fruit with a hint of smoked meats. 'Earth' comes to mind - followed by black cherry juice, maybe some ripe tomato, mushrooms and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is so inviting, with strawberry jam, vanilla, rhubarb, truffle & cinnamon all wrapped around a hint of caramel apple. Think either a big, thick salmon steal grilled with some hickory chips or a tasty rib-eye grilled just past rare. Throw in a little acoustic guitar, good friends, some heady conversation, and you've got the perfect setting to enjoy this truly stunning wine.

Winemaker’s Comments

The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal  unique to that vineyard site. There is something about the soil at Truchard Vineyard that is very clearly distinct to this site and perfect for Pinot Noir. Maybe it is the soil, maybe it is the slope, maybe is the aspect to the sun, maybe it is the hand of the grower…or a combo of all…but it is clear this tastes like the place.

Truchard Vineyard is renowned as a shining example of all that the Carneros has to offer. Planting to the combination of Martini & Swan clones for this particular site was genius. Concentrated berries yield an intense, stylistic Pinot Noir that is signature ‘Truchard’. It is a dazzling expression of the Carneros.

Wine Description

On the palate, the wine is so inviting, with strawberry jam, vanilla, rhubarb, truffle & cinnamon all wrapped around a hint of a caramel apple. It is at once complex yet so easy to sip. I’m thinking that either a big, thick salmon steak grilled with some hickory chips or a tasty rib-eye grilled just past rare would do the trick. We love the way dusty tannins can melt into tantalizing flavors of cherry cola wiping our sorrows away. Charles Mingus is playing in the background, the aromas of a beautiful meal are wafting in from the kitchen, I'm on my second glass, and I'm pretty sure life doesn't get much better than this.

2012 Humanitas Merlot Truchard
$ 50.00

Any who dare discount the noble Merlot, need not drink here! We love Merlot for its finesse, its mystery, its grace and power. We love the Truchard vineyard where these grapes are grown. This sweet spot, resting on a south facing hillside hidden far away from the road and passers-by provides just the sort of cool evenings and long, warm days that Merlot favors. Soft, sweet, juicy aromas of blueberry, pepper and fig bound from the glass making way for soft black cherry, tobacco leaf and cola on the palate. The ecstasy of its long, complicated finish calls for a dreamy, dramatic aria - Caro Mio Ben perhaps? - and if you can play it on vinyl, even better.

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars Firebrick Zinfandel
$ 35.00

Double Gold/Best of Class - Riverside International Wine Competition 2014
$20 flat fee shipping on purchases of 1-12 bottles

Tasting Notes

Exhibiting exceptional clarity and brilliance in the glass, this wine is effusive with a seductive nose of strawberries and cinnamon followed by layers of strawberries, raspberries with peppery notes leading to a long finish.

Terroir

Firebrick Hill Vineyard sits 1000 - 1200’ above sea level in northeastern Mendocino County just north of Lake Mendocino, on the Ricetti bench, an alluvial terrace. Vineyards in the Redwood Valley AVA sit about 200 feet higher in elevation than those along the Russian River, further downstream in Ukiah and Hopland . The climate of this upland valley is slightly cooler than vineyards to the south, furthered by a gap in the coastal ridge which allows cool Pacific air currents to penetrate. These conditions result in a longer growing season and a gradual ripening of fruit that makes Redwood Valley wines refined, with more acidity and deeper color. The notable red soil of the area also provides depth of color and flavor to the wines. The result is layered, nuanced wines with great structure and bright fruit, like the peppery, spicy Zinfandels for which the Redwood Valley is known.

2012 Oak Cliff Cellars La Belle Endormie' (Sleeping Beauty) Bordeaux Blend
$ 55.00

Silver medal – San Francisco Chronicle International Wine Competition 2015
$20 flat fee shipping on purchases of 1-12 bottles

Tasting Notes

This traditional Bordeaux style red blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc is still a young, but already complex wine: raspberry, cranberry, a little blackberry, minerals, pencil shavings, vanilla, coffee and toffee with great structure, full bodied, very long finish. But like most Bordeaux style wines, waken it gently from its sleep and decant a little while before serving.

Terroir

These classic Bordeaux grapes come from the Wild Diamond Vineyard in southern Lake County and have been co-fermented in making this premium wine. The Wild Diamond Vineyard is in southern Lake County (just north of Napa Valley) at an elevation of 2,200 ft., meaning warmer, longer growing days with cool Pacific breezes at night and an overall shorter growing season resulting in fully ripe fruit. The red, volcanic soil of this vineyard contributes both to the depth of color and rich flavor profile of grapes from the Wild Diamond Vineyard.

2013 Agnitio Chardonnay Durell Vineyard
$ 60.00

VINTAGE

The 2013 growing season was early, even and all-around excellent. A warm, dry spring brought early bud break, helped with canopy vigor and berry size, and created ideal conditions for flowering and fruit set under sunny skies. With the exception of one heat spike in late June and early July, temperatures were consistently in the zone for optimal vine activity, resulting in notably healthy vines as fruit went through veraison and began to ripen. This vintage gave us the extraordinary gift to pick what we wanted when we wanted.

TASTING NOTES

Rich gold color in the glass, with aromas of green Anjou pear, guava, and white peach blossom, this wine offers an aromatic complexity that can only come from the unique site of Durell Vineyard. The depth of the minerality in the mouthfeel is juxtaposed with a creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Hints of French pastry and spicy oak highlight the long, luscious finish.

WINEMAKING

Our grapes were gently whole-cluster pressed for over four hours (Press cycle used in Champagne). The juice was racked off its lies after it had a chance to settle down in a tank for at least 24 hours at 50°F. It was 50% fermented in a concrete egg and 50% in barrels, with a blend of 50% new French oak and 50% neutral oak. Only 25% of the wine was allowed to go through malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the brightness of the wine and gain just enough roundness on the palate. Aged "sur lies fines" for 12 months, this wine will cellar for years.

TASTING NOTES

Our first vintage of Sun Chase Chardonnay is a distinctive wine with exuberant character and ageability. The nose expresses subtle aromatics ranging from white flowers, Meyer lemons and crushed rock. Best comparted to a classic Meursault from Burgundy, the mouthfeel is at once laser-like, mineral and complex. While still in its youthful stages, with time this wine will blossom to express its mature balance of unctuousness and freshness.

$ 60.00

This vintage gave us the extraordinary gift to pick what we wanted, when we wanted.

TASTING NOTES

The 2013 Sun Chase Pinot Noir is our inaugural release of Pinot Noir. An incredibly vibrant wine, the aromas are complex and rich. Plums, black cherries, blackberries and flowers all jump from the glass, finishing with notes of cloves and sweet tobacco. This Pinot Noir has great structure and a strong backbone, with balanced mouthwatering acidity, soft tannins, and a long finish. This is definitely a wine to hold on to for a few years.

WINEMAKING

This Sun Chase Pinot Noir comes from three distinct blocks comprised of three different clones: 667, 777 and 828. Each block was fermented separately in stainless steel open fermenters. About 35% of 667 was whole cluster to increase complexity and mouthfeel. Overall, the wine represents about 15% whole cluster. From there, each block was aged separately for 12 months in 25% new French oak.

2013 Humanitas 'Good Earth" Sauvignon Blanc 'George's Vineyard'
$ 30.00

This Sauvignon Blanc opens on the nose with that bright, effervescent nose of white peaches, pears, a little honeydew melon. On the palate, there is a little spritz - by design - to deliver the exceptional acid and flavors. In the mouth, the delightfully crisp acid marries with the white peaches, pears, honeydew, and a little ruby red grapefruit. This wine is so bright, bouncy, and vibrant it craves music -- honestly, grab some classic being music and put your groove on with abandon and let loose!

Winemaker’s Comments:

The ‘Good Earth’ tier celebrates specific vineyards showcasing a distinct style of a particular varietal unique to that vineyard site.  George Shank’s vineyard in Wooden Valley (Napa) has something in the soil that expresses such a beautiful assembly of flavors and textures it is hard describe.  It could be the Entav clone in conjunction with the site – but the resulting white peach nectar, pear juice and red grapefruit is hard to reproduce.

George Shanks Vineyard is a jewel. It is one of the best expressions of the Sauvignon Blanc grape available in Napa.  Period.

Wine Description:

The Humanitas 2013 ‘George’s Vineyard’ Sauvignon Blanc opens on the nose with that bright, effervescent nose of white peaches, pears, a little honeydew melon.   On the palate, there is a little spritz…by design…to deliver the exceptional acid and flavors.  And in the mouth, that delightfully crisp acid marries with the white peaches, pears, honeydew…and a little ruby red grapefruit to deliver an unparalleled Sauvignon Blanc experience.  Holy Moly this is a good wine…time for a second glass!

As the wine settles on the palate, an almost creamy texture complements the crisp acidity and bright fruit.  It craves fresh oysters (oh wait, that’s me!) or a simple sole sautéed in light olive oil (ok…make it butter!) or some prosciutto wrapped melon.  But a beautiful local Chevre on a tangy sourdough might just be divine.  One way to find out!  And this bright and bouncy vibrant wine just craves music – honestly, grab some classic swing music and put your groove on with abandon and let loose!

Tasting Notes

A proprietary red blend that marries three primary varietals native to the Rhone Valley of France: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre (GSM). This classic-style blend resembles the Southern Rhone Chateauneuf du Papes blends in which the spice of the Grenache, lavender fragrance and perfumed berries of the Mourvedre and the dense, tannic fruit of the Syrah are united in a way that creates an earthy, yet explosive combination of flavors suitable for pairing with a wide variety of savory dishes or by itself.

Terroir

The grapes in this wine all come from the Wild Diamond Vineyard in southern Lake County. At an elevation of 2,200 ft., this vineyard sits high above the fog line, with 5 – 6 hours of direct sunlight daily and then cooled by Pacific breezes at night coming across the Mendocino wind gap. Its red loamy soil is the result of ancient pre-civilization floods and contains rich nutrients that contribute to the density, acidity and color of these grapes.

Tasting Notes

Mourvedre is a grape native to Southern Rhone and typically found in Rhone blends, but rarely bottled as a single varietal. Our distinctive single varietal Mourvedre is a soft red perfumed wine with subtle flavors of blackberries and violets, a hint of clove and a dusty finish. Although this wine is a lighter style red, the fruit is bright with a surprisingly substantial mid-palate of fruit, making it a very versatile wine for a wide spectrum of foods – fish, pork, poultry and even desserts with berries.

Tasting Notes

Syrah is known as the king of Rhone: single varietal for northern Rhone red wines and one of three primary grapes for the blends from southern Rhone. As a softer alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah still is known for its thick skin and big tannins, resulting in wines that are age-worthy and stand up to heartier dishes. This Syrah is elegance in the glass, with predominant notes of blackberry and black pepper and hints of anise, earth and leather.

The 2014 growing season was again early, even and all-around excellent. Throughout the season, the vines continued to stay healthy with moderate weather conditions creating an ideal growing season. Temperatures were consistently in the zone for optimal vine activity, resulting in notably healthy vines as fruit went through veraison and began to ripen. TASTING NOTES

Aromas of bright citrus, grapefruit, orange peel and kiwi are expressed on the nose, while hints of anise and limestone suggest an elegant minerality. The palate is driven by its extraordinarily soft, integrated acidity, giving this wine a refined crispness and long lasting finish.

WINEMAKING

Grapes from the Oak Knoll, Coombsville and Pope Valley AVA’s were gently whole- cluster pressed for over four hours. Juice was racked off its lies after it had a chance to settle down in a tank for 24 hours at 50°F. It was 70% fermented in barrels with a blend of 8% new French oak (Cigar Light toast barrel). The remaining 30% was fermented in a concrete egg. Both the egg and barrels were aged “sur lies fines” for 6 months with no lees stirring.

2014 Oak Cliff Cellars Napa Pinot Noir
$ 45.00

$20 flat fee shipping on purchases of 1-12 bottles

Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir is still very young, will cellar for years to come and needs some decanting, if only in the glass, for the full bouquet to evolve. Brilliant garnet in color, the flavor profile starts out with cherry/black cherry and cedar, and as the wine opens up with flavors of orange zest, fig, butterscotch, cardamom and black tea, with a long, silky finish. Pair this wine with turkey, ham, salmon and savory vegetarian dishes like stuffed mushrooms or ratatouille.

Terroir

This old vines vineyard of Pinot Noir was planted nearly 50 years ago (1966) by Pat and Duncan Haynes in what is now the Coombsville AVA, east of the city of Napa. Proximity to San Pablo Bay contributes to the temperate climate of Coombsville, with cooling effects of marine air and fog occur almost daily during the growing season Located in the wide alluvial deposits created by the wearing down of the hillsides, the Coombsville soils contain abundant rock, gravel and, in some areas, are layered with volcanic ash deposits from Mount George.

Tasting Notes

A unique blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Zinfandel meant to excite the taste buds and pair with a wide variety of tapas or small bites, or just by itself.  As with most ziplines, this wine will provide a passionate experience and appreciation of these three grapes whiles providing color and spice to whatever is foraged along the way.

Terroir

The grapes in this wine represent a marriage of the best from three vineyards in two counties – all at higher elevations and all benefiting from cool Pacific breezes at night.  Petite Sirah grapes are from Amber View Vineyard in northern Lake County, while the Cab/Merlot/Cab Franc come from Wild Diamond Vineyard in the southern part of the County.  The Petite Sirah has bigger tannins and dark, dense fruit while the Cab/Merlot/Cab Franc have softer tannins than many Napa Cab blends to the south.  Both enjoy shorter than normal harvest periods but fully ripe fruit because of their vineyard elevations of over 2,000 feet. The Zinfandel from Firebrick Hill Vineyard to the west, however, enjoys a cooler climate and longer growing season, resulting in a more refined, layered fruit as evident in this wine’s long, silky finish.

2014 Omen Sierra Foothills Red Blend
$ 20.00

Vintage

The third year of drought and the direst year on record, was coupled with an early bud break and a hotter than normal summer. Overall the harvest started earlier than normal. Although with slightly lower yields, an incredible quality and concentration was obtained, especially for red varietals.

Tasting Notes

Omen, Red Blend is an explosion of flavors and intensity. From spices to cassis and dark cherry notes, the complexity of the blend transcends into subtle notes of leather and dark chocolate. The mouth feel is rich with luscious and elegant tannins. A very bold and powerful wine that is still approachable and balanced.

Winemaking

In order to create the complex foundation of Omen, we work with a vibrant community of distinguished vineyards across the Sierra Foothills. Each block has been fermented separately to be able to preserve the single characteristics of the variety and the vineyard. The blend is then created and aged in 30% new oak for 8 months.

Tasting Notes

With flavors of green apple, pear, and melon, this rich and lightly-oaked Chardonnay is the perfect complement to fish, chicken, and foods with cream-based sauces and becomes increasingly elegant as it warms in the glass.

Terroir

Grapes for this wine come from two Sonoma vineyards: one from southern Sonoma County in Carneros and the other from the Russian River area.

The Vineyards and Vintage

The 2016 Pinot Blanc comes from Schrader Ranch Vineyard in Mendocino County, just south of Ukiah. In 2016 the long, mild summer with late rains meant the grapes could hang on the vine longer, building beautiful ripe fruit flavors while maintaining their acidity.

Winemaking

We picked the Pinot Blanc by hand on September 9th. The fruit was pressed immediately, allowed to settle, then racked off the lees the next day. It was fermented in stainless steel at 55 degrees. Once the wine was below 2% residual sugar, the tank was allowed to come up to 60 degrees to ensure the wine finished bone dry. The wine was bottled on March 10, 2017.

The Wine

Our Pinot Blanc is a beautiful corn silk yellow. It begins with citrus, lemon flower, and stone fruit aromas. It has a bright entry, with lemon, apricot, and honeysuckle flavors. It lingers with a long citrus and stone fruit finish. It’s supported by balanced acidity and smooth texture.  It’s perfect for warm summer days.

2016 Brooks Note Rosé
$ 24.00

THE VINEYARDS AND VINTAGE

The 2016 Rosé comes from our 4 Pinot Noir Vineyards: Azaya Ranch and Chileno Valley Vineyard in Marin (50%), a small corner of Monroe Vineyard (25%) on the Sonoma Coast, and Weir Vineyard in the Yorkville Highlands (25%). In 2016 the long, mild summer with late rains meant the grapes at all three sites could hang on the vine longer, building beautiful ripe fruit flavors while maintaining their acidity.

WINEMAKING

We harvested 3/4 ton of Clone 828 from Chileno Valley Vineyard and ½ ton of Pinot from Monroe Vineyard on September 2. We pressed the grapes together, making up about 2/5 of the volume of the finished Rose. The direct to press juice was fermented in 80 gallon stainless steel barrels. Picking the grapes a little earlier contributed great citrus and acidity to the finished wine. As the remaining Pinot Noir Vineyards were picked, (Chileno Valley Vineyard on 9/13, Weir Ranch on 9/16, and Azaya Ranch on 9/21 and 9/28) about 10% of the juice in the tanks was drawn off (signee) to make rose. The Rosé was allowed to settle overnight, and then moved to neutral French oak barrels to ferment.  We used 2 different strains of yeast to accent fruit flavor and mouth feel. The Rosé fermented in the cold room at the winery, and took about 6 weeks to finish fermentation completely. When primary fermentation was finished, the wine was racked into stainless steel to age for 3 months. Our Rosé is very dry, with only 1.1 g/l residual sugar. The wine was filtered and then bottled on March 9, 2016.

THE WINE

Our dry Rosé is a beautiful salmon pink. It begins with strawberry, floral, and citrus aromas. It has a bright entry, with ripe strawberry, grapefruit, lemon, and honey suckle flavors. It lingers with a long strawberry finish. It’s supported by balanced acidity and smooth texture.  It is perfect for warm summer  days.

Tasting Notes

This proprietary blend marries the blue-black fruit of Petite Sirah with the brightness and elegance of Zinfandel. Petite Sirah provides big fruit and tannins, while the Zin provides the brightness and finesse of a lighter, more refined raspberry-strawberry notes and a lingering silky finish. The cab/merlot/cab franc provide more structure and depth. This wine is surprisingly quaffable and easily paired with a variety of foods.
