V. Vineyards is located on the Sonoma County side of Spring Mountain, sitting at approximately 1800 feet elevation in the Mayacamas Mountains, one mile from the Napa County line. The AVA is Sonoma County. Nearby vineyards include Pride Mountain Estate, Fisher Estate Vineyards (Sonoma County), Paloma, Barnett Vineyards and other Spring Mountain AVA vineyard estates.

Highly limited production, handcrafted small lot wines, there are currently five blocks over 5 acres of the estate vines. Varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon (predominant), Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Planted 2007, to rootstock 420A and 101-14, Clones 4, 7 and 337 (CS). Soil composition is primarily Loam and ash, with excellent drainage.

The elevation of V. Vineyards affords a slightly cooler growing climate which allows the aromas and tannins to ripen along with the sugars, while protecting the acidity of the fruit, resulting in optimum structural balance and an elegant profile to the wine.

The uniqueness of this high elevation, sloping vineyard allows the vines to grow under well drained, sloped soils to be naturally limited in it’s vigor, therefore producing small highly concentrated berries year after year. Every task in the Vineyard from pruning, to suckering, to leafing, to green dropping and finishing with harvest is done by hand by the same crew since planting to ensure consistency and the highest quality possible.



Consulting Winemaker Jean Hoefliger.

Mr. Hoefliger is currently Winemaker and General Manager of Alpha Omega Winery in Rutherford, along with Consulting Winemaker Michel Rolland. Born and raised in Switzerland, his initial experience took him from Switzerland to Bordeaux, and South Africa, making wine at the esteemed estates of Chateau Lynch-Bages, Chateau Carbonnieux and Meerlust. Prior to joining Alpha Omega, Jean spent 5 years as Winemaker for Newton Vineyards. In addition to V.Vineyards, Mr. Hoefliger consults for a number of other renowned local and international wine projects including Decades 5, MR (Michel Rolland), Armanino Family Cellars, Clark-Claudon, Speratus Wines, and others.

Jean’s winemaking decisions are based solely on taste, starting in the vineyards and continuing through fermentation. Jean brings the true character of the vine and the terroir into the wine by making naturally fermented, unfined and unfiltered wines that show elegance, finesse and the capacity to age.

V. Vineyards wines are currently being produced, barrel aged and bottled at Alpha Omega Winery, Rutherford, CA.

V. Vineyards 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

The Wine

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 100% barrel fermented and barrel aged for 29 months in 80% new French Oak. A variety of cooperages were featured including Tonnellerie Ermitage, Taransaud, Tonnellerie Vicard, Tonnellerie Baron and others. The alcohol content is 14.3%.

Mr. Hoefliger’s Tasting Notes:

Color: Deep dark cranberry with hints of velvety red and purple

On the nose: Explosion of fruit like strawberries, cassis with touches of spices like basil, tarragon, tomato sauce lingering on Vanilla, cherry and pumpkin bread

On the palate: Soft velvety entrance evolving on tannins with soft dense fruit like black cherries, boysenberries lingering on plums, lavender and lilac.

The Wine 

The 2012 Audace, Block 4/Ruby Vineyard, is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. 100% barrel fermented and barrel aged for 28 months on 80% new French Oak. The alcohol content is 14.2%.

Mr. Hoefliger’s Tasting Notes

Color:  Nice shiny garnet with touches of eggplant and magenta on the rim

On the nose:  Touches of cedar, Tobacco, cherries, cinnamon bread, cassis, blackberries with touches of black pepper, tomato sauce and tea leaves

On the palate:  Soft but fresh entrance evolving on granular tannins with great structure. Touches of red cherry yoghurt, boysenberries, lingering on basil, dark chocolate, strawberries and lilac.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. 100% barrel fermented and barrel aged for 22 months on 80% new French Oak. The alcohol content is 14.4%

Mr. Hoefliger’s Tasting Notes:

Color:  Deep dark ruby with mashed strawberries and Ferrari red on the rim

On the nose:  Strong fruit like Cassis, Cranberries, strawberries and cherries with touches of clay, rosemary, paprika lingering on chocolate, lavender and tobacco

On the palate:  Soft entrance evolving on present silky tannins with some ripe red fruit like red currant, red cherries and touches of coriander and juniper berries.

Color:  Nice bright dark cherry with hints of royal red and geranium on the rim. 

On the nose:  Beautiful flowers on the nose with rose petals, violet, lavender evolving on chocolate, cherry, black currant paste.

On the palate:  Round, soft, entrance evolving on a framed, tannic structure with tobacco, espelette pepper, plums, cherry pit lingering on dark chocolate and cigar.

Color:  Deep, dark ruby with touches of Ferrari red and purple.

On the nose:  Beautiful underbrush with touches of campfire, ashes, morille, balanced with wild strawberries, lychee, matches, paprika, cassis and vanilla bean. 

On the palate:  Round, velvety entrance evolving on freshness with granular tannins with touches of blackberries, stone fruit, boysenberries lingering on a dark cherry reduction.
